If you’ve poked around here in the last day or so, you might’ve noticed the background moves. There’s a faint grid with a little sweep running across it, and a quiet equalizer down at the bottom of the page. It started as drum’n’bass, because of course it did.
But not everybody wants 174 BPM behind the thing they’re reading. So now you can pick.
Up in the top nav, next to the light/dark toggle, there’s a tiny set of equalizer bars. Click it and the groove changes. It starts slow and works its way up:
Downtempo → Blues → Rock → House → Garage → Techno → Jungle → Drum’n’bass
Each one has its own drum pattern driving the animation. Downtempo is lazy and loose, house is four-on-the-floor, garage swings, jungle gets busy, and drum’n’bass is drum’n’bass. The bars on the button fill up as the tempo climbs, and the waveform shifts color a little as you move between genres. Hover over the button and it’ll tell you what’s playing and what’s next.
Click once more after drum’n’bass and it all goes still. Click again and you’re back at downtempo.
Whatever you pick sticks, too. It’s saved in your browser, so it follows you from page to page and it’ll still be there next time you stop by.
And if your system’s set to reduce motion, none of this shows up at all. The site just stays calm, the way you asked it to.
There’s no audio. It’s just a vibe. Pick yours.
